Eyemagnet Westpac Stadium Project

Connected Stadium Launch at Westpac Stadium for Lions Tour

Eyemagnet has just completed a very successful project launch at Westpac Stadium to add to our growing Connected Stadiums lineup – the event saw the official launch of stadium-wide high-capacity free public WiFi and a multicast IPTV solution throughout the venue.

Over 38,000 fans showed up to watch the All Blacks take on the British & Irish Lions in Wellington on the 1st July, and these supporters were able to stay connected and share their experiences online using the powerful and secure free WiFi network provided by Spark in conjunction with Huawei and Eyemagnet.

Over the course of the night we had 9,417 unique users connect to the free public WiFi - that's a quarter of all visitors to the stadium. WiFi was provided by 280 access points installed around the venue, which were used by fans to upload 530 GB of data and download 270 GB. These statistics show that stadium-goers were eager to capture and share their game-day experiences online by uploading content to social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat.

Also available during the event was the Eyemagnet-powered Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) solution. Digital screens around the entirety of the stadium are controlled by Eyemagnet media players – phase one of the project has seen us install 200 media players, with the total increasing to 500 during phase two which is currently underway. Our IPTV supports multicast channel streaming to give staff greater control over what is to be displayed around the stadium. Current channel selections include the stadium broadcast feed, Sky Sports, Freeview, TAB, marketing playlists and more.

The Eyemagnet team was on-site during the game to monitor network usage over the night. We also set up a corporate box with an Eyemagnet 'Mission Control' area to demonstrate our technology offerings at the stadium. Visitors could view our WiFi landing page and IPTV solutions in action, as well as download our prototype Westpac Stadium mobile application.

Our prototype Westpac Stadium mobile application provides recent stadium news and upcoming events, live social media integration, match day TV live-streaming, highlight replays and live match statistics - all of these offerings combine to enhance the fan experience and keep users connected to the game.

Our Connected Stadium solution is an innovative and feature-rich offering that combines digital signage, IPTV streaming, WiFi captive portals, mobile applications and data analytics into one centrally-managed product suite as an alternative to Cisco Stadium Vision.

Overall the launch event was a huge success; the entire Eyemagnet team is proud to have delivered such a great result to a sold-out crowd. We'd like to thank Spark New Zealand and Huawei for working alongside us to power these technologies, and thanks to Westpac Stadium for their support throughout the whole project.
